Localization Notes
Hi there!
Thanks for taking a look at my Turkish LocJAM Entry.
Let me tell you briefly some decisions I took while localizing the game into Turkish.
About the title:
I decided to localize the title into "Başka Âlemlerde Maceralar" which means, "Adventures in Other Worlds". So the game's abbreviation changed from "AWW" into "BAM", which is quite nice when you think that it is somewhere in the middle of "Bang!" and "BOOM!" and it immediately captures your attention.
And in Turkish we use it in the same function as "bang" and "boom", moreover, we also have a colloquial phrase like "bam diye" i.e. "like bang, boom", which is to describe something happening in a surprising, quick and flashy way. And as you may remember, there is this sentence right at the end of the opening pitch: "With AAW, adventure starts in minutes." So, I used that Turkish phrase there to say that the adventure begins in an instant like BAM or 'bam diye!' Which was a quite nice touch, I think. :)
About dice types:
Since you can use standard dice instead of Fudge dice, I decided to add a little cultural touch to make sure that the audience is not intimidated by the lack of a Fate Dice or Fudge dice and I described those standard dice as "classic backgammon dice" in one instance, which is "tavla zarı" in Turkish. If you've ever been to Turkey, I am sure you've seen that backgammon game (tavla) is quite popular there. So this resolves the issue of which dice to use immediately in the minds of the Turkish audience because they can be sure that they can use their beloved tavla dice. :)
About redundancies in the text (like 2013, 2014 etc.)
I decided to delete those year remarks because they don't serve any purpose anymore, and simply stated that they are available.
About problematic Turkish cases:
I opened a new topic in the technical discussions forum about some Turkish letters not showing properly in their capital case and got a really nice reply from our host Alain Dellepiane, and thanks to his help I quickly solved the issue. So everything looks quite good now. Thanks Alain!
Thanks for reading!
Hope you'll like my localization of AWW.
Or should I say, BAM!
Take care,
Uygar
